About Us

In the Fall of 2012, Montez Brown (’15), with the assistance of Cody Schmidt (’15), set out to create a new, all-male a cappella group on a campus with an abundance of talent but a community that demanded expansion. With their combined musical and organizational skills, Montez and Cody received approval from the university to begin recruiting talent on Elon's campus.

Smooth Progressions premiered their arrangement of "Forget You" by Cee-Lo Green at Acapalooza, an annual fundraiser featuring all of Elon University's a cappella groups. The freshman group of 11 members made their mark in the community. Founder Montez Brown says "[he] wanted Smooth Progressions to mix things up on campus; create a new tradition." 

Today, Smooth Progressions is home to a diverse group of male identifying students. We have continued the traditions from the founding group and have even added a few of our own to keep things interesting. Everyday Smooth Progressions works to be the best it can and always have fun making music!
